Suzuki will unveil the production ready model of the S-Cross concept at the2013 Geneva Motor show in March. The name plate has not been decided and the company as for now refers it to the all-new C-segment crossover. The S-Cross looks very similar to the concept model the show showcased at the 2012 Paris Motor show.
The details remain scare, and Suzuki has only revealed the S-Cross will be available in both two wheel and four wheel drive variants. Based on all new platform, the C-segment crossover will be built at Suzuki’s Hungarian plant.
Suzuki will offer the model in both petrol & diesel engine options. The petrol engine could either be a new K-Series 1.6 or the 1.4 K-Series which is currently offered on the Ertiga MPV. Diesel engines will be sourced from Fiat, options include a 1.6 or a 1.9 Multijet diesel engine.
In terms of dimensions the S-Cross is 4310mm long, 1840mm wide and 1600m high. The dimensions are similar to Renault’s Duster which has been a success since the model went on sale in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki also showcased a SUV concept at the 2012 Auto Expo. This is a very important model for the Indian car maker to keep its market share intact and also look at expanding its product portfolio.
Could the S-Cross concept be launched in the Indian market as the compact SUV? Chances are very much possible as Maruti Suzuki desperately needs a model in the compact SUV segment. Ford, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Honda and Chevrolet have plans to launch a model in this segment as the buyers get a feel of an SUV yet the fuel efficiency and lower running costs similar to compact hatch.
Maruti plans to launch this model in 2014 and we can expect the launch to happen at the 2014 Auto Expo which is happening in Noida for the first time.
