Mahindra & Mahindra is betting on the SUV segment and plans to launch a smaller SUV than the Quanto. The company is developing a new range of SUV’s and the sub-compact SUV is also a part of this program.
Code named S101, the new SUV will be the second offering from Mahindra under the sub-four metre category. The smaller SUV is in its early stage of development and according to Autocar India, Mahindra is plans to make a sporty mini SUV to take on the likes of the new Ford EcoSport.
A test mule with heavy camouflage was caught testing which features dummy head and tail lamps. The profile indicates crossover like stance with higher ground clearance and a raked windscreen.
It is unclear if the company is developing an all new platform altogether for the mini SUV and there are possibilities of the company using the Ingenio platform with a smaller wheelbase.
From the image, the SUV will be a five seater, but Mahindra may squeeze in extra seats like the Quanto to market it as a 6 or 7 seater.
Mahindra is also developing a upmarket version, codenamed S102 which could most like be exported to countries like South Africa and Italy.
