Hyundai is planning to launch another small car for the Indian market aiming to further increase its presence in the Indian market. Codenamed BA, the new small car will abide the new fluidic design language and will be positioned between i10 and i20, as against notion that it will replace i10.
The car will hit the Indian roads by Mid-2013 to compete with the likes of Maruti Ritz and Nissan Micra which are priced between Rs. 4-6 lakhs.
The project has been developed out of South Korea and over 100 Indian engineers have visited the R&D centre to work on this project. The car is currently undergoing testing in South Korea and is likely to hit the market just ahead of the festive season this year.
The new small car will co-exist with i10 in India and will be powered by a 1.1-litre diesel engine and 1.2-litre petrol engine. The new diesel engine will be offered on the new BA small car and the company is expecting to have peak annual volumes of 1.5 lakh units within two years. Hyundai is looking to sell 6.6 lakh cars in the Indian market with the launch of this model.
Hyundai is the second largest car maker in India, but the gap between Maruti Suzuki and Hyundia is large. The new small will help the company to add more numbers and also increase its market share in the small car segment.
