Honda India plans to discontinue its once very popular model Civic in the Indian market. The production may discontinue from Diwali as the company will assemble the remaining units.
Honda Civic when launched was much ahead of its times in terms of design both exterior and interior. The car is powered by a 1.8L SOHC i-VTEC Engine producing Max. Power of 132 PS / 6,300 rpm and Max. Torque of 17.5 Kg-m / 4,300 rpm
But the lack of diesel engine and high running costs has affected the sales of the sedan. Honda tried to revive the Civic by launching new variants and also introduced the car with a sunroof.
In the last few months the car is struggling gin terms of sales and barely sells 100 plus units. In July Honda managed to sell 138 units a big jump compared to June where it sold only 58 units.
The chances of the new gen Civic in India seems very slim as it will not be available in a diesel engine and also the car has not been a great success internationally. The new Gen European Civic is available with a 1.6 litre diesel engine. But this engine configuration will not make it to India due to poor diesel fuel quality.
Do you think Honda should continue selling the Civic?
