Fiat India has confirmed the launch of the Punto Abarth for the Indian market around mid 2013. The company have shipped a few units to test on the Indian roads so as to make tune them for Indian conditions.
A Fiat Punto Abarth Evo EsseEsse was caught testing on the Indian soil in Coimbatore. The badging was unmasked and sported the EsseEsse and Evo logos which represent for high performance.
The Esseesse Evo edition comes with a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine found in the standard car but the engine’s electronic control unit (ECU) is tuned to develop 180 bhp (The Evo version is tuned for 165 bhp). The suspension is reworked and gets Abarth Springs and Koni FSD dampers at the front and rear, disc at all ends with Brembo M4x40 front callipers. The engine is mated to a 6 speed transmission and one can choose between normal’ and ‘sport’ set-ups.
We could expect the Punto Abarth Evo to be launched in the Indian market which develops 165bhp considering the fuel quality and also Indian driving conditions. The Punto Abarth will be assembled at the company’s Ranjangoan plant and could sport a price tag of around Rs. 9-12 lakhs.
