Audi, luxury car manufacturer, announced an increase in price of its model range available in India. While the Fully Built Units (FBU) have seen an increase of 13 to 14 percent, the Audi models which are locally produced in India have increased by 3.4 to 3.7 percent.
“Further to the increase in excise duty and customs duty on large cars in this year’s union budget, we have re-evaluated our pricing strategy in India and have increased the prices of all products. However, we are still confident of achieving our sales target of 7500-8000 cars at the end of 2012”, said Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India.
For CBU models like Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8 L and Audi RS5, customs duty has increased from 60 to 75 percent, as a result prices for these models have increased in the range of 13 to 14 percent. The Audi A7 Sportback is priced at INR 66,04,000 onwards, while Audi RS5 now begins at INR 85,95,000 (Ex-Delhi).
In view of the Excise duty increase from 22 percent to 27 percent, models like Audi A4, Audi A6 and Audi Q5 have incurred a price increase in the range of 3.4 to 3.7 percent. The Audi A4 is now priced at INR 30, 60,000 (Ex-Delhi).
While the prices for all Audi models have increased, the company expects at least for the 2nd half of Calendar Year 2012, an improving demand due to relaxation of interest rates by RBI and a continuing trend towards upgradation, which will be spurred by the new Audi Q3.
Audi delivered more than 106,600 cars to customers worldwide in February, an increase of 16.6 percent over the same period in 2011. For the year to date (January to February 2012), worldwide sales for Audi have reached around 202,700 cars, a rise of 8.5 percent. This was the first time that the company has exceeded the mark of 200,000 cars by the end of February.
In India, Audi achieved a remarkable performance with sale of 600 cars in February 2012 – a growth of 33 percent over the same period last year (February 2011: 450 cars). Powering ahead confidently with its ambitious outlook for 2012, the brand with the four rings has plans to sell 8000 cars this year, which will be a significant growth over last year (2011: 5511 cars).
The Audi model range in India includes Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8L, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi RS5 Coupé, the super sports car Audi R8 and the Audi R8 Spyder available across the country: in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai West, Pune and Surat. Further developments include Coimbatore, Delhi West, Lucknow, Nagpur and Mumbai South.
