French carmaker Renault said it will launch a new hatchback in India during the Auto Expo in January 2012.
The car which is specifically designed for the Indian market by its design centre in Mumbai will compete with Maruti Suzuki Swift and Volkswagen Polo.
“In January 2012 we will launch a hatchback in B to B+ segment and it is specifically designed for the Indian customers by our Mumbai centre,” Renault Executive Vice President (Product Planning and Program) Philippe Klein said.
The car be assembled at Renault’s Indian facility in Chennai and will share its platform with Nissan Micra.
Renault will be launching the new Clio in 2011 and we expect the same car to also debut in India. We hope Renault also uses the same the name.
