Nagpur rider Jatin Jain drove his way to the top of the overall standings in the TVS Sports & Tourism Goa Gold Cup Motocross Championship 2010, organised by the Gomes Sports Academy in collaboration with Goa Motor Sports Association, with a clinical ride in the second round held at the Gomes Race Track in Candolim on Sunday.
Jatin who was trailing Goan favourite Allan Sequeira in the first round, now shares the top spot with the Goan on 66 points.
It was delightful afternoon at the Gomes race track which once again pulled out a huge gathering after successfully holding the first round earlier in January this year. The event saw twenty-four riders from across India showcase their skills much to the delight of the sports lovers.
All eyes were on the Foreign Class Group A MX – 2 category, which saw action go down to the wire with Jatin Jain taking the podium with a total of 35 points from a third and first place finish over the two rounds.
Goan heartthrob Allan did not disappoint his fans, taking second place with a narrow one point lead ahead of Gaurav Khatari.
Other race of the day, the Amateur Class was pocketed by Pune’s Vishal Barguje, who comfortably led from the start to finish claiming a well deserved win. Jalami Subedar took second while Ashish Anil Kupade came third.
The race was flagged off by Mr Ashley Gomes, president of Goa Motor Sports Association in the presence of chief guest Mr Anthony Menezes, president of All Goa Karate-Do Association, and Zilla Parishad member Ms Abelina Menezes.
Dyaneshwar Barguje, a former rider, along with Mr Ashley Gomes gave away the prizes.
The TVS Goa Gold Cup Motocross Championship now heads to the third round to be held in December, which will decide the winner who will earn a cash purse of Rs. 30,000 along with a one-time opportunity of witnessing the World Motocross Championship hosted by FIM, the International body.
