The traffic cell, Margao is engaged in imparting education and instructions to bus and truck drivers, two and three-wheeler taxis to take precautionary measures while driving on the roads to avoid accidents and the resulting injuries and deaths thereof.
The cell has undertaken distribution of pamphlets and leaflets cautioning riders to wear helmets and the steps to take during hill driving. As for two-wheeler riders, the pamphlet spreads an awareness stating 159 two wheeler riders died on the roads in Goa in 2008 and with a helmet on one side and a cartoon of an injured person bandaged all around in a hospital, the pamphlet states, “Helmet or hellyour choice.” And to ensure that the quality of the helmet, it says “Use ISI mark helmets.”
The booklet on hill driving stamped ministry of shipping, road transport and highways and department of road transport and highways categorically describes hill driving as “an uphill task,” and cautions that “if you are not an apt driver, avoid hill driving.”
PI Shirwaiker said since schools were closed, they were engaged in educating the drivers of vehicles engaged in public transport system in an ongoing exercise to contain accidents and deaths.
The instructions given asks drivers not to allow school children in their cabins, to keep the doors closed and while driving not to engage in any conversation.
