Volkswagen must have entered late in the Indian market but is now trying to catch fast with its new Polo and the upcoming Polo Sedan. According Autocar the new Polo Sedan will be called Vento in India which means wind in both Italian and Portuguese.
The Vento will be based on the Polo platform and will be very similar in the front but will have a larger wheelbase and taller roofline as compared to the Polo hatch. This segment is certainly heating and Honda will face the heat even more as both its products the Jazz and City are priced quite high as compared to its competitors.
The Vento is expected in 2 engine options- 1.6 litre petrol and 1.6 litre diesel both with 105 bhp. However the diesel will have a more torque at 25.5kgm as compared to petrol motor’s 15.8kgm.This torque is comparable to Mahindra’s mighty 2.2 mHawk Scorpio.
Both variant will have an manual gear box and DSG could offered later if there is demand. Whats most important is that Volkswagen could price the Vento in the price bracket of 7-9 lakhs. The Polo sedan was due December 2010 but considering Toyota to launch its Etios Sedan and also Ford is preparing for its new Fiesta launch VW has pre-poned its Polo Sedan launch.
