Swedish automaker, Volvo has driven in its new flagship sedan, the S90 in India at an introductory price of Rs 56 lakhs (Ex showroom Delhi)
The new Volvo S90 draws its design which is modern yet simple look which resembles the new Volvo family look which was earlier seen on the XC90 SUV. The face receives a long bonnet with the Thor hammer headlights and concave front grille finished off in chrome; the side profile showcases the slopping roofline and long length indicating at sheer space on the inside, while the rear has those beautifully detailed taillamps which stand out from today’s competition.
While on the outside it’s all about being sporty and the classic design, on the inside its sheer luxury, space and comfort. The dashboard is made up of the highest quality materials, like the multi layered dash which gets black, beige and natural finish walnut wood trim, while the centre console houses a large tablet like 9.0 inch touchscreen which controls not just the infotainment system but also controls the air conditioner and safety features such as Lane departure warning have also made their presence into the screen.
The seats which get lumbar support and power adjust are crafted and wrapped in Nappa leather which gets heating and cooling function through the seats itself. Another very interesting bit of the interior of the S90 is the knurled treatment for the start/ stop button which has a very premium treatment to it and adds to the high quality feel of the cabin.

Safety gadgetry from an automaker that is known for lengthy safety feature list has further packed its new sedan with Run off road protection, Emergency brake assist, Seatbelt pretensioners for all seats, Child booster cushion, high strength Boron steel, Whiplash protection, Side impact protection. Volvo has also added a cool new safety feature to the S90 called Lane Keeping Aid which is works by identifying the lane markers on the road and automatically steering the car or providing aid by warning the driver before steering itself to maintain the lane
Providing drive and power to this new luxury premium sedan is a sub 2L diesel which produces 190 bhp and 400 nm of torque through an inline 4 cylinder turbocharger from the Drive E – family of engines which delivers and optimizes the engine response for better mileage and economy and actually is the first to qualify to be Euro 6 complaint.
Volvo has a new ace up with its sleeve with the new S90, which has come back and replaced the ageing S80 sedan with a fresh new premium looks, upmarket rich interiors and a whole load of gadgetry and safety features on board the car, furthermore Volvo is offering the car with only one fully loaded Inscription trim priced at Rs 56 lakhs, which is as tempting as the car itself, the S90 will make a niche for itself and also give its competition a good run for their money.
The Volvo S90 can be had with four exclusive colour options like Black Black metallic, Mussel blue metallic, Crystal white metallic and magic blue metallic but through the limited dealer network could be a letdown, however Volvo is working hard to improve its network and soon there could be one in your city also.
