Coastal Honda the dealer for Honda Cars India in Goa launched its new compact SUV the BR-V in Goa. The BR–V is Honda’s first compact SUV in India and will give the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta a run for their money.
The BR-V measures 4,455 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,650 mm in height, a 2,600 mm wheelbase and has a good 201mm ground clearance.
The BR-V at first glance does remind you of the Mobilio MPV but Honda has given the BR-V some unique SUV like styling cues. At front the face has a high bonnet, black projector headlamps with day time running lamps, bold chrome front grille, muscular front bumper with lower body cladding, chrome lined fog lamps and a skid plate.
The side profile looks a lot like the Mobilio much due to the doors and windows which are lifted straight off the Mobilio however but the black cladding on the lower part of the side profile and the cladding on the wheel arches and big roof rails do add some style. The rear has an attractive profile with the connected LED taillights design with C shaped graphics, rear spoiler, thick chrome garnish above the license plate and rear bumper with black plastic cladding and a skid plate and 16 inch diamond effect alloy wheels.
Honda has given the BR-V an all-new premium interior and high quality materials. The centre console gets a new piano black finish while there’s an all new integrated audio system with Bluetooth and hands free telephone. There’s also the integrated automatic climate control and roof mounted air conditioner for the second row. The BR–V also gets a 3D instrument cluster with multi information display which displays Trip Meter, Range, Average fuel consumption; instantaneous fuel efficiency, time and Ambient temperature.
Honda has packed the BR–V with a host of features which include Chrome door handles, projector headlamps with Day time running lamps, chrome door protector, electrically adjustable outside mirrors with turn indicators, heat absorbing front windshield, rear chrome garnish, leather wrapped steering wheel, gear knob and seats with silver stitch and adjustable headrests, push button start stop with smart entry, tilt steering wheel with audio controls and paddle shifters.
When it comes to safety the BR-V is built using an Ace body structure which enhances self protection while mitigating damage to the to the other vehicle in an event of a collision along with ABS, EBD, dual front airbags, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, front 3 – point ELR seat belts with Isofix, immobilised anti theft system and Pre tensoner seatbelts with load limiter.
Powering the BR–V is a 1.5 litre i–VTEC Petrol motor producing 119 PS and 145 NM of torque mated to a 6 speed manual transmission returning 15.4 kmpl and a CVT gearbox with paddle shifters along with a mileage of 16 kmpl. The 1.5 litre i– DTEC Diesel engine produces 98.6 bhp and 2000 rpm mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. The diesel BR-V returns around 21.9 kmpl. (Fuel efficiency as per CMVR rule 115).
