Ever since it was launched in the Indian market, the Audi Q7 SUV has been a massive hit for German luxury car maker especially among filmstars who would arrive on the red carpet in a Q7. In 2015 Audi launched the all new Q7 which is faster, more efficient, quieter and more luxurious than before and this time around it’s loaded with a lot a more tech too.
Based on VW’s MLB platform the second generation Q7 gets has grown in dimensions and measures 5500 mm long, 1740 mm tall, 1970 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2990 mm.
Despite the increase in length the Q7 doesn’t quite have the sheer size the earlier Q7 had, but there are nice bits like the new single space frame grille with two neatly designed matrix LED headlamps, new restyled bumpers, flatter bonnet and rectangular tail lamps. The side profile of the Q7 does look more like a station wagon than SUV thanks to the steeply raked rear windscreen. The new Q7 rides on 18 and 19 inch alloy wheels.
The Interiors are a huge step forward from the earlier Q7 with minimal switchgear, free standing infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. The new Q7 also gets a new touchpad which is fast and easy to use.
Two trim levels are on offer – Technology and Premium plus.
Feature wise the Q7 gets a 19 speaker Bose® 3D Sound System, full leather seats with electric adjustment, four zone climate controls, Panoramic sunroof , electric folding third row and a new infotainment system. Audi virtual cockpit, Drive select. Air suspension, Park assists, Matrix LED headlamps, MMI Navigation Plus and an all-digital instrument cluster.
Powering the New Q7 is a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine. The powerful 45 TDI (3.0 TDI) engine churns out 249 hp (183 kW) of power and 600 Nm of torque which propels the new Audi Q7 from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 234 kmph. The engine is mated to an 8 speed ZF torque convertor automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and quattro All Wheel drive system as well.
Audi is also in process of developing a hotter more powerful Q7 to be bagged as the SQ7 which will make its debut later in the year.
