AMT gearboxes are getting more popular day by day with many auto manufacturers matching this technology with their cars. AMT or Automated Manual gearbox was first introduced by Maruti Suzuki in the Celerio hatchback in 2014 and later in the Alto K10.
The Indian car maker has tasted sweet success in both the cars because of the ease of driving, efficiency and affordable price, to further boost the AMT technology Maruti has launched the AMT transmission in the popular Wagon R and Stingray variants.
Powering the Wagon R and Stingray is a 1.0 litre K10 Petrol engine producing out 68 ps and 90 nm of torque. The AMT gearbox is the same 5 speed unit as on the Celerio AMT and Alto K10 AMT.
Recently Magneti Marelli inaugurated their dedicated AMT manufacturing facility in Gurgoan. This will help to further bring down their costs and decrease supply constraints Maruti has been facing as the company had to import the gearboxes all this time.
The Wagon R AMT and Stingray is offered only in the top spec VXi trim. One can also opt for the new option pack which is equipped with safety features such as ABS, dual front airbags and will be offered as an option across all variants, including base variants, of Wagon R and Stingray.
