India’s largest car maker has been introducing new models at very regular intervals. After the S-Cross, the company is all set to launch the new Ciaz SHVS mild hybrid.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been a good seller ever since it was launched in the Indian market in October, 2014. The Ciaz has dethroned the Hyundai Verna and has captured the second slot behind the Honda City which has been the king of the segment ever since the new model was launched.
Maruti Suzuki has been working with parent Company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, on Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Technology. The objective of the technology is to reduce fuel consumption, thereby reducing the CO2 emissions which save the environment.
Maruti is all set to launch a new version of the Ciaz SHVS with mild hybrid technology. SHVS stands for Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki. The SHVS mild hybrid system employs an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) which provides engine power assistance using a motor during vehicle acceleration and achieves efficient power regeneration during deceleration.
This technology will offer a larger capacity battery, integrated starter generator and start-stop technology that will help it return better mileage. Coupled with ISG, the braking system also aids the engine start-stop technology that automatically stops the engine at a traffic light and start upon releasing the clutch.
By offering this technology Maruti wants to make the diesel variants more fuel efficient and also help to justify the price tag.
The Ciaz SHVS (Hybrid) version was spotted in Goa. From the pics it’s clear there are no exterior changes except for the SHVS badge above the variant name. The Ciaz with SHVS technology will be currently available on the 1.3 diesel engine option only.
Besides the mild hybrid system, Maruti Suzuki will also standard driver airbag across all Ciaz variants. While from the V(O), the Ciaz will get dual airbags, Anti-lockig braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) system as standard feature.
The dealers in Goa have already started accepting bookings for the Ciaz SHVS upon payment of Rs. 10,000. Launch of the vehicle could happen any time soon. Expect the prices to be hiked substantially in the range of 50-60 thousand.
