‘When on road, always say Pehle Aap (you first)’ is the theme for the 25th Road Safety Week announced by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The safety week will be observed in Goa from January 11 to 17 which was announced at a press conference, by the transport director Arun Desai.
This year the road safety programmes will be held in schools, higher secondary’s and colleges, wherein on all seven days awareness would be created on issues such as use of helmets and seat belts, pedestrian safety, rash and negligent driving and other Motor Vehicle rules.
During the week, the department has decided to create awareness on different issues, on each day, on the prevention of accidents and the road safety. A walkathon has been planned at the offices of assistant director of transport in all the 12 talukas wherein our staff members will walk along the roads holding placards displaying safety message.
With increasing awareness about road safety the number of road accidents has come down marginally from 270 in the year 2012 to 256 in the last year.
The Road Safety week will be inaugurated at Carmel College, Nuvem in the presence of Transport Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar, Forest Minister Alina Saldanha and local MLA Francisco Pacheco.
We request all our readers and fans to observe road safety always by atleast wearing a helmet while riding and strapping the seat belt while driving.
