Bharat Benz will soon enter the light duty truck segment in the Indian market. The company announced the start of production of its 9 tonne Rigid, 12 tonne Rigid & 12 tonne Construction Bharat Benz LDT (Light-Duty Truck) range at its manufacturing plant in Oragadam.
The Bharat Benz Light-Duty Trucks are based on the Fuso Canter Platform are well accepted internationally and form the backbone of the transport industry in most of Asia. The trucks on the Canter platform were first launched in the Indian market via a joint venture between Mitsubishi & Eicher. The trucks have been vigorously tested under the severest of Indian conditions and will provide the Indian trucker a reliable solution for his needs.
The LDT features a four-Valve per cylinder, 140 HP and 170 HP engines. The trucks offer a minimum of 10% more fuel efficiency in comparison to existing products in the market.
The entry of Bharat Benz in the light commercial vehicle market will affect the market leader Tata Motors to a very high degree. Tata Motors will also be launching its new gen trucks and we can expect the trucks to roll by 2013 (Tata LCV trucks caught testing).
