Hyundai India is working on new and fuel efficient engines for its next gen cars. The South Korean car maker is going the Maruti way a developing a new 1 litre Kappa engine which power the next gen Hyundai i10. The 2014 model will also get a diesel engine which will help the company offset the sales numbers which in the last couple of months have been declining due to the absence of diesel heart.
Hyundai will plonk a 1.1-litre diesel engine and we hope the engine also makes it on the Eon small car in a lower state tune.
In the current engine line, Hyundai has the 1.2 kappa petrol engine which powers the i10 & i20. The i10 and the Santro is powered by 1.1 Epsilon engine which will be replaced by the new 1 litre Kappa engine in the future. Hyundai plans to manufacture 165,000 units and ramp up the production to 200,000 units in the future depending on the demand.
1-litre Kappa is being developed specifically for the Indian market at Korea and will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility at Chennai where a new setup is being established for producing them. The carmaker will also produce the 1.1-litre diesel engine at the facility starting September next year.
Hyundai has ambitious plans for the Indian market and plans to launch new products in future. Besides new products the company also plans new investments which include a new plant in Gujarat and a diesel engine.
