Karl Slym, president and managing director of General Motors India, said the company would launch Chevrolet Cruze, its new offering in the Chevrolet Spark segment, by third quarter of its financial year ended December 2009.
Slym added, “The car will be priced similar to Chevrolet Spark. As far as the minicar is concerned, we are not competing with Tata Motors’ Nano, which is a different segment.” On the retail side, General Motors has tied up with state-owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to set up Chevrolet service stations across the PSU’s petrol and diesel retail outlets.
Chevrolet Cruze was developed by a global design and engineering team with sophisticated styling cues that are fast becoming the signature for Chevrolet. Chevrolet Cruze boasts ample interior space, surprising cargo capacity and comfortable seating for five. With exacting safety standards and a quality build, Chevrolet Cruze delivers on Chevy’s promise to offer a smartly designed compact at an exceptional value.
While the Chevrolet Cruze, which is being tested before its production at Halol, is likely to be roughly priced at Rs 12 lakh to Rs 14 lakh ex-showroom. The Chevrolet Cruze will be pitted against the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Jetta.
