Chevrolet has marketed its small car, the Spark car well thus far and schemes such as 3 year free maintenance are proof for it, but unfortunately this hasn’t translated into the expected sales figures for the car manufacturer. Sparks main competitor that is the Alto sells around 20 thousand on a consistent basis and the newly launched Eon from Hyundai is doing respectable figures of around 7 thousand. Maruti is planing on launching the new 800 and this launch could further hamper the sales of the Spark. So, how can Chevrolet sit idle in a such situation?
Chevrolet isn’t sitting idle and is planning on giving the Spark a facelift. The first spy pics of the facelifted Spark with camouflage have emerged, thanks to our friends at Motorbash. The most noticeable change to the car is the honeycomb grille which makes the car look more muscular and is in line with the design theme of other Chevrolet cars. The bow-tie Chevrolet logo will sit in between the grille as opposed to the top of the grille at present. The higher variants will also get chrome surrounds to the grille and the air dam. The other changes to the front which are apparent are the new curvier front headlamp, reworked air dam, modified fog lamp slots and altered bumper to accommodate all these changes.
The rear of the car will also get mild changes like tweaked taillamps and slightly altered bumper. The car doesn’t have alloy wheels and comes equipped with steel rims. Roof rails too are missing. The side profile though remains the same and we dont expect any major changes to the mechanicals and engine either, except for minor tweaks to improve performance and fuel economy.
Chevrolet had big plans for 2012 with new car launches and upgrades & replacement for existing cars. It has already launched the Facelifted Captiva and its popular sedan, The Cruze has been fitted with a larger engine. The Aveo sedan and the U-VA hatchback will be replaced by the new Aveo and Sail U-VA and then there is the Enjoy MPV and facelifted beat which have been spotted testing several times. The facelifted Spark will take the tally of new cars to 7 for 2012. We expect the launch to happen around Diwali to bank upon the surge of sales which usually happens during the festive season.
