Yamaha Ray scooter has begun testing cycles in the Indian market. Unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo, the Ray scooter could see a launch during the festive season.
The scooter is targeted mainly for the feminine group but it may also attract the masculine group due its edgy style. Yamaha may plonk in the 100-125cc engine made for Indian market which will focus on the right balance of power and mileage (Kitna Deti Hai J).
The Ray will priced in the premium segment and will be in the range of Rs. 50-55K.
Vespa have also launched the LX125 in the premium segment and Yamaha may follow the same. With fierce competition offered by Honda, Suzuki and recently by Mahindra, Yamaha will have to keep a tab on the prices if the company is targeting volumes.
Yamaha will be producing the Ray scooter at its Surajpur plant in Uttar Pradesh and has also expanded capacity for the same.
