Mahindra is getting more serious with the Maxximo platform and plans to launch new products for better utilisation of the same. Mahindra is developing a brand new Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) on the Maxximo platform which rivals the Tata Ace platform.
Mahindra has already launched the Maxximo Van which is a direct Tata Magic competitor. So is Mahindra developing a Venture competitor? The vehicle is currently being developed at the Mahindra Research Valley based in Chennai.
The platform will have to be modified heavily to suit the needs of the MPV. The company will have to work heavily on the suspension, gear box and also engine to provide higher levels of comfort compared.
The MPV segment is gaining momentum with more players introducing products to meet the growing customer demand.
Mahindra has just inaugurated a 125 acre research facility on the outskirts of Chennai called the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), which has been set up at a cost of INR 650 crores. This facility will initially house 1,500 engineers working on research and development with the number of engineers expandable to 3,000 in the future.
The MRV features an engine development centre, an NVH testing centre, passenger safety unit, alternate fuel test centre, fatigue labs and polymer technology development centre. In other words, the MRV is one of the most advanced vehicle R&D centres in India currently.
