Premier is gearing up to launch its compact SUV Rio, equipped with a 87hp 1.3-litre diesel MultiJet engine sourced from Fiat. Premier first showed the concept at the 2012 Auto Expo and had hinted a launch for mid 2012.
Premier showcased the Rio with a 75 hp Multijet engine with a decent torque of 190 Nm.
The company has already started trials of the Rio with the Multijet under the hood. The new 1.3 diesel engine will help the company to start sales in the BS4 cities currently where the Rio is not on sale.
Premier had launched a refreshed version of the Rio with beige interiors with select new features. Premier is also planning a new ad campaign that may be launched along with the forthcoming Rio 1.3 MultiJet. There are no other changes apart from a small refresh in terms of new head lamps and tail lights.
Seems like Premier is in a hurry to be the first mover in this category which soon expected to get many more players in the form of Renault, Ford and Mahindra.
