Hero recently showcased it hybrid concept scooter, the ‘Leap’ at the 2012 Auto Expo. This technologically advanced scooter works on electricity and petrol and is a smart move on the company’s side as petrol costs are not decreasing.
Hero MotoCorp, which is fast enhancing its research and development (R&D) capabilities since embarking on a solo journey last year, is currently developing this hybrid technology to bring environmentally-friendly two-wheelers in the country.
Unveiling the Concept scooter here today, Pawan Munjal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Hero MotoCorp, said “As its name signifies, the ‘Leap’ is indeed a leap in terms of advanced technology not just for us but also for the Indian two-wheeler industry in general. For us, it is indeed a ‘Leap’ into future in terms of our ability to bring technologically-superior products in keeping with international standards. Although this is currently at a concept stage, we intend to take it forward to be able to produce it commercially in the near future.”
The Leap, which runs on petrol and also on battery, comes equipped with first-time multi-functional features, which will certainly appeal to the aesthetically-inclined youngsters and young adults. The company has already applied for three international technology patents and nine international design registrations.
A select team of very few people within the R&D set-up at Hero MotoCorp, along with a few international consultants, has been engaged in this project.
Hero is taking its little scooter very seriously as it has applied for three international technology patents and nine international design registrations as of now. And as you may see the scooter looks very purposeful and smartly designed. With disc brakes and long telescopic forks up front it should display good handling also.
