Mahindra XUV 500, received8000 bookings within 10 days of its launch and the company were forced to close down new bookings. The XUV 500 is sold out for 4 months; however, the good news for those looking to buy the XUV500 is that Mahindra is re-opening bookings by January 2012.
Mahindra has ramped up production capacity for the XUV and hence the backlog of order will be cleared earlier than expected. There are chances that Mahindra will increase the price of the XUV500 as the prices announced at the time of launch were introductory.
Available in three trim versions, the XUV500 2WD W6 is priced at Rs. 10.8 lakh, 2WD W8 costs Rs. 11.95 lakh, while the top-of-the-line 4WD W8 variant retails at Rs 12.88 lakh.
The XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre M-Hawk engine with a transverse layout. This engine develops 140bhp ans 330Nm of torque. Mated to this engine is another first for an all Indian vehicle – a six-speed manual gearbox, developed in-house by Mahindra. The car has disc brakes abound on all four wheels and in addition there is ABS, EBD plus ESP to ensure safety. There are driver and front passenger air bags, start/stop is standard equipment and there is also hill descent control for the top line offering.
