French car maker Peugeot is all set to launch new products in India and will put up its public face in India at the Auto Expo in New Delhi in January 2012. Its stall will be located in proximity to that of Volkswagen (VW). The German manufacturer will be Peugeot’s closest competitor in India.
Peugeot will be following a top-down strategy for India. The company will import cars from its international line-up into the country before the plant rolls out the first car in 2014. This wil help to set up the brand for the 508 which will be assembled using completely knocked down kits in India. Peugeot will also set up a dealership network mainly targeting the metros first.
Peugeot will launch C and B+ segment cars for India with an aim for a localisation level of 70-80 per cent for the volume models. The company will be setting up an engine and gearbox plant at Sanand as well.
The Rs 4,000-crore Sanand facility will have an initial capacity of 170,000 cars a year.
