Tata Motors July sales down 6%

Tata Motors reported cumulative sales of 63,761 vehicles in July, down six per cent from the like period of last year.

The passenger-vehicles segment sales, including distribution offtake of Fiat cars, were lower by 39 per cent at 18,294 units (17,192 Tata, 1,102 Fiat) as compared to 30,166 vehicles (27,865 Tata, 2,301 Fiat) in July last year.

Tata has planned a slew of products for the next six months which could help the company increase its sales.

Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in July 2011 were 63,761 vehicles, lower by 6% over July 2010. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for July 2011 were 57,990 nos., lower by 9% over 63,559 nos. sold in July last year.

Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal are 256,799 nos., a growth of 4% over 247,381 nos., sold last year.

Commercial Vehicles

The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in July 2011 in the domestic market were 40,798 nos., a 14% growth compared to 35,694 vehicles sold in July last year. LCV sales were 24,962 nos., a growth of 22% over July last year. M & HCV sales stood at 15,836 nos., a growth of 4% over July last year.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 153,842 nos., a growth of 16% over last year. Cumulative LCV sales are 92,464 nos., a growth of 22% over last year, while M&HCV sales stood at 61,378 nos., a growth of 7% over last year.

Passenger Vehicles

The passenger vehicles business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 18,294 nos. (17,192 Tata + 1102 Fiat) in the domestic market in July 2011, lower by 39% compared to 30,166 nos. (27,865 Tata + 2,301 Fiat) in July last year. Sales of Tata passenger vehicles for July 2011 are at 17,192 nos, lower by 38% over July last year. Sales of the Tata Nano were 3,260 nos., lower by 64% over July last year. The Indica range sales were 5,860 nos., lower by 32% over July last year. The Indigo range recorded sales of 4,877 nos., lower by 30% over July last year. The Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture range accounted for sales of 3,195 nos., lower by 2% over July last year.

Jaguar Land Rover sales in India continued their upward trend.

Cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 89,105 nos. (82,300 Tata + 6,805 Fiat), against 106,375 nos. (97,974 Tata + 8,401 Fiat) last year, lower by 16%. Cumulative sales of Tata passenger vehicles were 82,300 nos., lower by 16% compared to 97,974 nos., till July last year.

Cumulative sales of the Nano are 25,239 nos., a 6% increase compared to 23,779 nos., till July last year. Cumulative sales of the Indica range are 23,795 nos., lower by 32%. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family are 19,309 nos., lower by 26%. Cumulative sales of the Sumo/Safari/ Aria range are 13,957 nos., higher by 8%.

Exports

The company’s sales from exports at 5,771 vehicles in July 2011 registered a growth of 36% compared to 4,241 vehicles in July last year. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 20,657 nos. are higher by 25% over 16,484 nos. in the same period last year.
