Vespa may launch Fly 125 scooter, looks at volumes

Vespa India made its re-entry with the all new LX125 in the Indian market. After establishing the brand the Italian scooter maker is looking at volumes in India. The company now plans to launch the Fly 125 scooter in India which will be priced in the range of Rs. 50,000.

The Vespa LX 125 scooter commands a premium and is priced on the higher end. The company claims one will have to pay a premium for a premium product. Vespa LX125 is priced at Rs. 66,661 at this makes it the most expensive scooter in India.

We earlier also reported of Piaggio launching mass market products in the Indian market.

In order to cater to the masses Vespa will launch the Fly 125 and will directly compete with Honda Activa, Suzuki Swish and TVS Wego.

The Vespa Fly 125 is powered by a powerful and economical 124cc 4 stroke, aircooled engine mated to a Twist and Go” CVT transmission. The Front suspension is telescopic hydraulic fork as compared to expensive Front Arm with coil spring and dual effect shock absorber. Another big difference is the Steel Tube with reinforced plates in the while the Vespa LX 125 gets a Monocoque steel high rigidity structure.

The Fly 125 gets neat looking set of Alloy wheels, powerful front disc and rear drum brakes, Lockable under seat storage and glove box plus handy shopping bag hook. The Indian version may get the front disc as an optional fitment.

The Piaggio Fly 125 will produce around 10 BHP of peak power and 10 Nm of peak torque. Expect the scooter to be launched in 2013.
