Tata Indigo eCS CNG caught testing, launch around the corner

Tata Motors is working on a number of new variants of its existing cars to get back the confidence of its customers which has been fading mainly due to quality issues, after service and no new model launches.

Tata Motors have not launched a single new model in 2012 so far. The company the refreshed Indica eV2 couple of days back and has plans to launch many more models. Next in the line-up is the Manza with many new and segment first features (Read more on the Manza Club Class)

Tata Indigo is no more the best selling sedan which had been the top ten performer for months and sales have been averaging less than 4500 units in the last couple of months. Tata is also working on the Indigo eCS CNG variant to offer the customer more choice. The CNG variant will help the company lure buyers who are worried about the rising fuel prices. The CNG fuel is available in 14 major cities and the NCR region forms the bulk of sales for CNG fuelled cars.

The eCS CNG could be powered by the same 1.2 litre petrol engine with a factory fitted CNG kit which also does the duty on the Indigo XL CNG.

Some features of the factory fitted CNG kit:

  • Integrated pressure & temperature sensor
  • Safe fuel system
  • Body-Side mounted NGV type CNG filler valve
  • CNG regulator

The Indigo eCS was the first compact sedan in the Indian market and was an instant hit due to its lower pricing. But with the launch of the new Dzire, the Indigo eCS sales have been declining month on month.

The Indigo eCS CNG launch could happen in a couple of weeks. Tata Motors has lined a number of launching mainly refreshes in the next two months. Tata is also planning to launch the Nano with CNG option. Seems like petrol hike prices could no longer be a big concern for future prospective Tata customers.
