Skoda’s new sedan on Fabia platform to be called Rapid

Skoda all new sedan based on the Fabia platform (same as the VW Polo/Vento)will be called the Rapid. The name Rapid has been used on many models in the past by Skoda and the sedan is expected to hit the roads middle of 2011.

The Rapid (code name SK: 251) will share the underpinnings of the Vento and will come with the same engine options and power trains. The new offering will be based on the new design concept Vision-D, Skoda showcased at the 2011 Geneva motor show.

The Rapid will be priced below the Vento and will come with features which will distinguish it from the Vento. We expect the Rapid to be cheaper by Rs. 30-40 thousand form the Vento which starts at Rs. 7 lakhs and goes upto Rs. 9.5 lakhs.

It’s going to be a strong competition with 3 new more models in this segment: the New Hyundai Verna, New Ford Fiesta and the New Nissan Sunny.
