Mahindra Verito Facelift Spied again

Mahindra is in the process of giving its only sedan car that is the Verito mid-life facelift. This is the normal Verito and not the less than 4 meter long compact sedan which is in the pipeline.  Mahindra has been testing the Verito for quite sometime now.

Mahidra Verito facelift caught testing in Chennai

Verito is essentially the Logan from Renault which was taken over by Mahindra after the Mahindra-Renault joint venture was called off. Mahindra sells around 1500-1700 Verito’s per month but these sales figures though respectable are not enough as Mahindra has to pay high royalty for the Platform and Engine to Renault. Mahindra wants to up the sales of the Verito and the mid-life facelift is a part of that strategy.

The front of the car is set to get a makeover with beefed up bumper and headlamps. The fog lamp housing will also be altered. The basic side profile remains the same but the B pillar is now blackened out and makes the car look more upmarket. The ORVM are also reworked.

The rear bumper too is new and so is the tailgate. The number plate will now be housed on the tailgate as opposed to the bumper on the present Verito. The rear tail-lamps will be reworked and might get the clear lens treatment.

The other changes to the car are the new wipers which are now altered to function for Right hand drive vehicles. Mahindra seemed to have worked hard to improve the small glitches. What remains to be seen is whether the ergonomics are improved like the poorly positioned power window switches and bonnet opener. We have no data on the whether the interior will get any changes but it is unlikely that the changes will be anything more than cosmetic.

The Verito is powered by 1.5 litre diesel motor which generates 65bhp and 160 Nm of torque. It also has a 1.4 litre petrol engine which generates 75bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The diesel powered Verito is favourite among the buyers. The engine though not very powerful is drivable and offers great fuel efficiency and except for minor tweaks, don’t except any major changes to the powertrains.

Verito offers great value for money, the top end diesel model cost around 7.5 lakhs on road and undercuts its rivals by a huge margin. This facelift will only make things better for Mahindra.
