Mahindra to unveil hybrid variant of Scorpio in Auto Expo

Mahindra and Mahindra, the leader in SUV segment in India, is believed to display its hybrid variant of Mahindra Scorpio at the forthcoming Auto Expo 2010. However, the commercial launch of the vehicle is expected to be in next two years. The hybrid Mahindra Scorpio will be a diesel-electric hybrid version contrary to the general case of petrol-electric model. The new model is expected to give a mileage of around 16 kmpl. There are also reports of launching a hydrogen vehicle by Mahindra and Mahindra. This will be a three-wheeler and named as HY-Alpha. The vehicle operates on compressed gaseous hydrogen and can give a range of 170 km.

Mahindra could launch SYM Cevalo 125 bike

As a part of its strategy to enter the Motorcycle segment Mahindra Scooters could launch the SYM Cevalo 125 in India.

Cevalo125 has street-smart styling that reveals its compact frame and single cylinder; it offers a unique mixture of stunning looks with nimble handling and comfortable riding position. Cevalo’s masculine styling includes the sharp feature integrated front winkers with orange bulbs and forward-leading lines. The riders can easily stay away from the traffic and shuttle in the street with this new bike.

Cevalo would compete with Honda’s Stunner, Bajaj Discover, XCD135, Hero Honda’s Super Splendor & Glamour and TVS Flame..

Mahindra launches Gio pickup truck

Mahindra has launched its Gio commercial vehicle. Calling it “India’s first compact truck”, the Gio is priced at Rs. 1.65 lakh.

Mahindra Gio uses a two-cylinder, 441cc, diesel engine that produces 9.1 bhp and 2.2 kgm of peak torque. The engine is developed by Kohler and is made at Kohler’s facilities in India, while the transmission is a 4-speed manual, developed by Mahindra. The engine is mated to a 4 speed gearbox and is claimed to give a mileage of 27 kmpl.
