Ford to launch 8 new models by 2015
Aug 27th

Ford India plans to launch eight new vehicles in India by 2015, said Mr. Joe Hinrichs, President of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa (APA at the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. “We have big plans for India and this region. By the middle of this decade we will introduce eight new vehicles from our global platforms, in segments appropriate for this market,” he said. “
By 2012, more than 70 per cent of the vehicles sold under the Ford brand globally will be built off 15 core platforms. By bringing suppliers into the development process earlier, we can ultimately generate more profit for the supply chain,” he said
Ford to drive into used-car market soon
Aug 24th

After the success of Ford Figo, Ford India is all set to enter the used car market once again. Few years back, Ford India had introduced its used car business Ford Assured in the Indian market in association with its dealership network.
However, the business soon closed down due to extremely poor response from the market. Ford launched the Ford Assured programme way back in 2002, to buy, re-condition and sell used cars of different Indian makes.
With major auto makers launching the used car programme Ford feels this strategy is good to develop a strong customer relationship across product portfolios. The used car business also helps reach a larger number of customers, give dealers additional revenue, extra volumes and help enrich the corporate image.
Ford India raises Figo prices
Aug 7th

Ford’s popular small car, Figo, has become more expensive by around Rs. 4,244 starting August 1. The base price of the petrol variant in Delhi is Rs. 353,000.
According to a Ford India release, prices of all Figo variants have been increased to a maximum of 1.2 per cent. The company has attributed this to rising input costs.
“Ford India has marginally increased the price of Figo starting August 1 due to market undulations on input costs. Keeping in mind the value for money commitment, the maximum price increase on a Figo variant will not exceed 1.2 per cent,” said Mr. Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India.
Maruti Old Wagon R Duo relaunched
Aug 2nd

With the development of an LPG variant of its latest generation Wagon-R yet to be complete, Maruti India, has resumed selling the alternate option in the old version of the model. After launching the new generation Wagon-R in April, the company had discontinued the ‘Duo’ variant of the old Wagon-R, which had both petrol and LPG options.
“We are now selling the ‘Duo’ and it will continue till the LPG variant of the new WagonR is ready. The work on new LPG is going on,” Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chief General Manager (Marketing) Shashank Srivastava said.
‘Duo’ was contributing about 20-22 per cent of total Wagon-R sales, which stood at 10,000-12,000 units a month and the LPG variant is priced at Rs 3.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
When asked about likely timeline for launching the model, he said: “The R&D team has just started the work and it is unlikely that the LPG variant will be ready in this fiscal.”
