Alcon Mercedes-Benz launched the new E-class in Goa, at an event in Porvorim at the Mercedes-Benz Goa dealership. The E-Class is the best-selling luxury sedan in India with over 23,000 units sold till date. The new E-Class was launched on 25-June, 2013 at New Delhi and this marque has received an overwhelming response in the Indian market.

The car is priced at Rs. 41.5 lakhs for the E200 CGI petrol and Rs. 44.8 lakhs for the E250 CDi diesel. The company has launched limited edition of the E250 CDi priced at Rs. 49.9 lakhs. Only 100 units are available pan India and one only luck Goan can own this.

More on the new E-class

The new E-Class or rather we can call it the facelifted E-class comes with 2000 new parts and most importantly an extensive change in the front which makes the car look very sporty and elegant. Its new emotive design reinforced with the Intelligence Assistance Systems, reaffirms the E-Class’ position as the most sought after luxury sedan in its segment”.

On the front-end the design is in line with Mercedes-Benz’s all new design philosophy. It reinterprets the classical design values of the brand by infusing emotionally appealing contours to make the car a class act. The result is a superior, refined and sporty appearance. The front of the new E-Class has been completely revised with new single headlamps. Flowing light elements within the headlamps ensures that the “four-eyed” look which is typical of the E-Class is retained.

The fascinating full LED headlamps are available for the first time in the new E-Class. The radiator with central Star, introduced for the first time in the E-Class,lends an independent and sportier front-end look. The bonnet and front bumper have also been completely redesigned.

 A new feature line runs below the structure from the rear door through to the tail light. The new E-Class looks more elongated and elegant, yet at the same time both dynamic and composed. At the rear, the lights and bumper have also been revised. The new horizontally structured LED tail lights with new two-tone look emphasize the width, and with fibre optics create a characteristic night design. The 17-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels appropriately showcase the class and sportiness.

The new E-Class gives driving a whole new perspective with Mercedes-Benz Intelligence Assistance Systems that comprises a host of technological innovations and advancements that makes driving convenient and enjoyable. The Intelligence Assistant Systems comprises Eco Start Stop function as standard, Intelligent Lighting Systems featuring variable light distribution with cornering function, reversing camera, Attention Assist, Infotainment System AUDIO 20 with Central Controller and a tyre pressure loss warning system.

A new interior trim line ‘open pore ash wood trim’on the dashboard is a first in the luxury sedan segment in India. The special treated brushed open pore ashwood gives the new E-Class a modern and stylish ambiance and has a natural matt finish, which is used for contemporary high end furniture and interiors.

A high-quality silver chrome frame, the ambient lighting beneath the dashboard trim and the four door trim strips, augments the mood inside the E-Class altogether. The memory seats with lumbar support raise the comfort level inside the car. The premium ARTICO leather lends to the high class quality of the upholstery. The driver’s seat and the front passenger’s seat have memory package and can also be electrically adjusted for height, backrest angle and seat cushion angle. The Infotainment System AUDIO 20 features a Central Controller to navigate through the menus. The Universal Media Interface UMI and Bluetooth provide connectivity to various phones, portable devices as iPad, iPod and other USB- or Aux-devices connectivity and therefore make the car a compelling proposition for the discerning customers.

Safety has always been a priority for Mercedes-Benz which is very well established with the 8 airbags equipped in the new E-Class. There is an adaptive dual stage airbags for driver and front passenger; Side impact air-bags for driver and front passenger and window airbags. Features like the Anti-Skid Resistance (ASR); Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Brake Assist (BA) helps the driver to have a total control of the vehicle on road.

The luxury sedan comes with a host of famed Mercedes-Benz optimized systems like the PRE-SAFE® technology and NECK PRO – crash responsive head restraints for front seats provides an excellent comfort and safety. Also forming part of the standard equipment is ATTENTION ASSIST, to warn drivers about inattentiveness and drowsiness. Belt tensioner and belt force limiter for driver, front passenger and outboard rear seat passengers and three stage impact protection front crash structure benchmarks the car’s safety enrichments. Intelligent Light System comes with a variable light distribution with cornering function, that helps in adapting to any road conditions during night driving, making the drive safer, and this is complemented by Adaptive High Beam with automatic switching between high and low beam. The Active Bonnet is also a unique safety feature in the E-Class that enhances pedestrian safety.

Other features included are the sunroof giving an unhindered view of the sky. The “Active Parking Assist” system with integrated PARKTRONIC provides an unmatched convenience to the driver. The technology enables the driver with information for the most suitable parking space. It is additionally equipped to help with active steering intervention, creating a more reliable mechanism for better driving comfort.

The E-Class also comes with a full-sized spare wheel which is best suited for the Indian road conditions and provides peace of mind, especially on long drives. The E-Class’ 540 liters boot size is a benchmark in the segment even though a full size spare wheel is offered as standard with the car.

The fuel efficiency of the new E-Class 200 CGI petrol has been enhanced by 8% to 13.8 kmpl, making it best in class; while the torque has been increased by 15 nm. The new E 200 CGI four cylinder petrol engine with direct injection, variable valve control and turbo charging boasts better output and torque. The multiple direct petrol injection with fast-switching piezo injectors optimizes air/fuel mixture, facilitating complete fuel combustion. Reduced engine weight plus the lower internal friction also contributes to lower emissions and higher fuel efficiency. The 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission provide significant advantages in terms of efficiency. The use of torsion damper ensures comfortable vehicle operation even at lower engine speeds. This lowers engine speeds without compromising comfort and contributes to fuel economy. Efficient vibration damping in the transmission ensures an even faster response to the accelerator.

The vehicle is also equipped with the ECO start/stop function as standard to reduce fuel consumption. A combination of all these features makes the new E-Class not only the best in class fuel efficient car, but also one of the most green and environment friendly Luxury Saloon in the market. The large 80 litres fuel tank of the E-Class ensures that the E 200 CGI petrol covers up to 1100 kms and the E 250 CDI diesel covers up to 1380 kms with a full tank of fuel.

The E250 CDIdiesel is equipped within-line 4 cylinder engine with a displacement of 2143 CC which generates best in class torque of 500 Nm @ 1600-1800 rpm and a rated output of 150 Kw @ 4200 rpm.The vehicle attains the speed of 0-100 km/h in a mere 7.5 seconds. The E 200CGI petrol engine has been further developed. It has a displacement of 1991 CC which generates now 300 Nm of torque at 1200-4000 rpm, which is best in class again, and helps the vehicle to attain the speed from 0-100 km/h in a mere 7.9 seconds. The rated output for the E-Class 200 CGI is 135 kW @ 5500 rpm.
