Mahindra to hire people for pre-owned vehicles biz

Mahindra FirstChoice plans to hire over 250 people by 2015 for its pre- owned vehicles business, even as it gears up to meet the target of selling 100,000 units every year by 2014.
“There is a huge demand for second-hand vehicles… Our target is to sell 100,000 pre-owned cars every year by 2014. Accordingly, our staff strength will also increase and it will be more than double from the existing number of employees,” Mahindra & Mahindra President (HR, After-Market, Corporate Services) Rajeev Dubey told.
The pre-owned vehicle division of the company — Mahindra FirstChoice — employs about 250 people at present. Stating that it sold about 18,000 vehicles in 2009-10, he said that it aims to achieve sales of over 36,000 units this fiscal.
Audi begins Q5 assembly in India

Audi has started assembly of the Q5 model in Aurangabad. The sporty SUV is the third Audi model after the A4 and A6 to be produced in India, increasing the production volume this year to more than 2,400 units, compared with 732 vehicles in the preceding year.
Audi Q5 which competes with BMW X3, Volvo XC90 and Land Rover Freelander. Tata Motors have also announced assembling the Freelander in India.
Assembling cars in India could help auto makers reduce import duty from 115% to 60%. Audi plans to assemble 1,500 units of Q5 models in future. Altogether Audi has produced around 2,000 cars in India since the start of production in September 2007. By 2015 up to 6,000 units will be rolling off the line each year.
Ford to hire 1000 to meet Figo demand

Ford India commenced export of its latest small car — Figo, to South Africa as part of its plan to make India an export hub and hence Ford announced to hire 1,000 people for its Chennai facility by the end of this year.
Ford exported 1,200 units of its newly launched compact car ‘Figo’ to Durban as completely-built-units (CBU). The lot comprised equal numbers of petrol and diesel options.
Stating that their biggest problem was “capacity” with demand for the vehicles picking up, Boneham said, “South Africa was an impatient customer (for us)… We have got over 5,000 units in orders (for Figo).”
Mercedes to hire 250 engineers for Bangalore R&D centre

There is some good news who loved cars always dreamt of joining Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz said it will hire about 250 engineers for its research and development (R&D) centre in Bangalore during this year to support its global facility.
“We have a R&D centre in Bangalore, which is working in association with our global development centre in Germany, We will enhance the strength of the Bangalore unit to 650 engineers by the end of this year,” Mercedes-Benz India General Manager (Product Homologation) Prakash Vermali told reporters on the sidelines of a SIAM summit.
