– Pointers from the press-conference

  • The Figo will soon be completing its 30th month into production. It was launched over 2 years ago.
  • It is the most awarded Indian car ever. The Figo has over 20 accolades to its name.
  • Ford has sold over 2.35 lakh units of the Figo ever since its launch in India.
  • 60-70% customers of the Figo are first-time car buyers.
  • Ford currently has 230 sales outlets across the country. The American car-maker plans to expand to 500 outlets by 2015.
  • EcoBoost powered Figo unlikely – “The current engine-options available on the Figo go well with the cars market positioning. The EcoBoost would further increase costs, which we clearly want to avoid,” said, Mr. Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India.
  • CNG/LPG powered Figo under consideration – “This is one aspect that we are strongly looking at for our products. I’m not going to announce what we’re going to do with our products, but we are definitely analysing the possibilities of LPG and CNG powered cars in our portfolio. I myself think Diesels are much more practical though,” said Mr. Boneham.
  • Figo S/ Figo 1.6 ruled out – “We had considered doing a Sports version on the lines of the Fiesta S, however judging by the response we have got from the consumers, majority of the Figo buyers are also first-time car buyers. The priority for them while buying a car is value for money and the current car makes a great case for itself,” said Ford India’s Mike Boneham.
  • Ford is currently analysing a range of products from its global portfolio for a launch next year. Michael Boneham has confirmed that the Fiesta hatchback and the B-Max are currently “topping the list.”
  • Fiesta sedan’s facelift currently undecided – “The Fiesta was always meant to be a niche product. We never expected it to be a seller and the idea of launching it here was to give the market a taste of Ford’s global portfolio. We haven’t yet decided on what we are going to do with the product next, as we are currently focusing on the 8-products (hints that the facelift does not count as one of the eight products) that we have lined-up for launch (till 2015).”
